Roma Organization from Macedonia “Daja” exists from 06.06.1993, road that broth gathering, as well as risks, joy, as well as sorrow, humanity, as well as uncertainty, expectations, as well as disappointments.
For everything to clear, I will try to shortly deal with all of you who will read this document our experience.
The mission that leaded our organization on the beginning was improving the status of Roma women and Roma population on the field of education before all.
The start was very hard, because before Roma women weren't included in this kind of movements, due to which we had to work step by step.
We began with tea gatherings, where we faced many problems, most often when we tried to gather women to attend these informal gatherings, as well as when we explained the need for them to include in these movements.
Then, it was rare to hear the voce of Roma woman, and we are pride that we were among the first that influenced on the presence of Roma women into public life to become normal.
We started with tea gatherings, and now we work on campaigns on bigger inclusion of Roma women into public and political life.
At the beginning we were hardly accepted, while now, in the last 5 years, we achieved results with which we are very proud.
We were example for establishing many Roma women organization in Macedonia.
We established branch-organizations in Bitola , Vinica, Berovo, Pehcevo, Delcevo and Kriva Planka, branches that are now successful independent organizations.
With hard work we managed to achieve the status that we enjoy now, due to which we are recognized in all the state, even wider in the region.
We cooperate with many national and international organizations and networks.
It is obvious that there are differences considering our target group. But it is sure that we are not going to stop here. We will continue to work on education of Roma population, gender equality, as well as integration of Roma population into society.
